Emergency Information

In the event of an emergency, the Nevada Field Office will provide you with needed information here as it becomes available.

The Nevada Field Office Emergency Public Information Plan provides a framework for coordinated, accurate and timely release of information to Nevada Field Office employees, the news media, potentially affected members of the public and other stakeholders.

Emergency Management
It is the policy of the Nevada Field Office to protect our people, emergency personnel, national security information, facilities, lands, and neighboring communities from loss of life, injury, illness, loss of property, or degradation of the common health and welfare caused by emergency conditions at the Nevada Field Office and Nevada National Security Site, whether due to Nevada Field Office actions, forces of nature, or external events.

Public Information
Procedures are in place to ensure the release of accurate information to employees and the news media and to other state and local organizations; community and tribal leaders; offices of local, state and federal elected officials; and for the coordination of this information with the Department of Energy.

The Office of Public Affairs is responsible for establishing and managing a general 24-hour public information phone number in the event of an emergency; call 702-295-NNSA (6672) for information. Representatives from the Public Affairs Office will answer questions with approved information or will research an answer, as needed, through the Emergency Operations Center.

When a Joint Information Center is activated to provide coordinated information response from the Nevada Field Office as well as from local or state agencies, Public Affairs will transfer its public response staff to the JIC and will forward the rumor control line to the JIC telephone number.
